In Memorium

On this Memorial Day, we as a nation, should pause to remember those who sacrificed so much. For those who gave their lives, we can only repay them by continuing to keep our liberty as the priceless gift and treasure it is. For those who survived the wars over the years, our thanks, our honoring their struggles, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

In my family, my father who served in the Army in World War II, in North Africa and Italy, my mother’s brother who served also in the Army in World War II in Europe, my spouse’s father who served in the Marines in the Aleutians, my cousins who served in the Army in Korea, my very dear friends who served in Vietnam, my step-son who served during the Iraq war in Israel, and my step-son-in-law who served in Iraq, as well as all those who in the ancestry have served in the preceding wars, from World War II back to the Revolution. I honor you all, there are no words adequate to thank you for defending this country, for helping to keep our freedom and liberty.

May we never forget the courage, strength, honor and loyalty. From a grateful citizen of the United States of America.

I.O.U.V.F.W.

As we begin a solid moment of barbecues, the beginning of summer and the clambering of vacationing tourists, I like to think upon the purpose of Memorial Day.

I often refer to the fallen soldiers on this weekend, because people really do forget while tossing hot dogs on a grill and enjoying a three day weekend, why this day was set purposely aside….

…..but I was thinking of someone else. I know quite well the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day (and believe it or not, meany people do not).

This year I wanted to consider a different aspect of service that veterans of foreign conflicts were unwillingly subjected to: the bringing home of fellow soldiers that perished in this desperate desire of ours for freedom.

These are the men and women that brought home…

Do Our Family Treasures Have a Secret Life?

Something to think about. Even objects have history and connections to people.

Moore Genealogy

Objects

We all have them. Those items we gather as we move through our life. They may have been handed down to you by your parents, grandparents or passed down from many generations. It could even be a silly souvenir that you purchased on that great family vacation a few years ago. If you still do not know what I mean, these are the things you would grab as you leave because of a fire. You know the things that have no monetary value, but are priceless because selling them would be like selling a part of yourself. Do the people in your family know their story? Do they have a secret life so that their story is not known? Their story is your story, your family’s story and needs to be told.

I have just finished reading “The Secret Life of Objects” written by Dawn Raffel. The author would choose…

The number of Ketzeback descendants is huge, with the variants in spelling have made following some of them challenging. The collateral lines are actively being researched, and any information about any of the Ketzeback lines would be welcome.
